Solar Light: Power To People 2012

Solar Light: Power To The People

In our own lives, we take modern lighting for granted for basics like children's education (study at night), healthcare, and safety. "Solar Light: Power To The People" is a new project from Assam Foundation of North America to bring a little bit of reliable lighting to poor people in a remote region in Assam. This is the the Garbhanga forest near Pamohi outside Guwahati. Garbhanga does not have electricity from the grid and is unlikely to do so in the near future. To make a dent on this problem, AFNA met the goal of raising $4000 from 50 unique donors within 2 months in 2012!

A footwear project for the children of Assam, ... One Step At A Time

By Alpana & Ram Sarangapani

During one of our annual visits to Assam, our young son, felt very distraught when he noticed rickshaw wallas and poor children without any footwear. He was saddened & surprised that there were people who could not afford some of the very basic things in life. From then on, he found it very difficult to ride rickshaws, and expressed his wish that if he had all the wealth in the world, he would make sure that the less fortunate amongst us, would, at the very least, have the basic necessities of life.
